How to Recall an Email in Outlook

In new Outlook or Outlook on the web, open Sent Items, open the message in its own window, choose Recall Message, then confirm. Recall depends on both accounts being in the same Microsoft 365 organization.

Steps

  1. Open Sent Items and double-click the sent message so it opens separately.
  2. In new Outlook or Outlook on the web, choose Recall Message. In classic Outlook for Windows, choose File, Info, Resend or Recall, then Recall This Message.
  3. Confirm the recall and check the recall report Microsoft sends.

Worked example

Example: you sent an internal draft to a coworker. If both mailboxes are in the same Microsoft 365 organization and the message qualifies, recall can remove it. For an external Gmail recipient, send a correction instead.
